printmaking
Printmaking has long been one of my favorite mediums. I was fortunate to
be at John Herron Art Ins. when Garo Antreasian got a Ford Foundation grant to
make Lithography a viable medium in the U.S. Garo also taught woodcut
in the Japanese manner. At Yale I learned etching and intaglio and from then
on was hooked on printmaking. Thank you, Mr. Blaustein, Mr. Zeimann, Mr.
Peterdi. Whenever I could get to a press, I tried to
make prints. Lately, I've been working with *Solarplates after having been
introduced to them by Dan Weldon at the Printmaking Center in Santa Fe, NM.
I am continuously amazed at the definition and sensitivity of the *Solarplates
and the results my students get with them.
It was a relief
to give up the toxic acid based etching altogether.

"look home"
5X7"
$75
Original is an etching. This is looking north towards where Granny's farm was. The oak tree on the east side of the lane Granny called the "snake tree". She said there was a giant snake that lived in the tree that ate little girls and their ponies, too. It was to keep me from riding my pony, Queen, away from the farm. Later on, when Granny would send me off with eggs for the neighbor, I had a hard time convincing Queen to go past the 'snake tree'. She would lay over and dance as far as she could. She knew about the giant snake before I did. The old house is gone now.
4 hand-pulled etchings exist. $250. |
